Frequently Asked Questions
I live on campus. Do I need a Meal Plan?
Students residing in Pine, Bischoff, Mackin, Laurel and Overlook Halls are required to purchase a meal plan each semester. Meal plan selection is made during the housing selection process.
How do I purchase a Meal Plan?
If would like to purchase a meal plan or if you would like to make a change to the plan you have already selected, please email mealplan@ramapo.edu with your selection. Include: First and last name and Banner ID Number (R#). Questions regarding any meal plan information can be directed to the Dining Services Office at (201) 684-7773.
When do my meals reload for the 14 & 10 Meal Plans?
The week begins on Saturday and ends on Friday.
What is the difference between Flex and Ramapo Dollars?
Flex Dollars can be used at any of our retail locations, for student catering and to pay for guest meals at Birch Tree Inn. They will carry over from Fall Semester to Spring Semester, granted that the student maintains a Traditional Meal Plan. Ramapo Dollars are used in the same fashion as Flex Dollars but may also be used in the college bookstore. Ramapo Dollars balances carry over from semester to semester and are non-refundable for any reason.
What are your retail locations?
Retail refers to our a la carte dining locations: the Atrium & (located in the Scott Student Center), Dunkin (located on the 1st floor of the Adler Nursing Center), and Common Grounds (located in the main lobby of the Peter P. Mercer Learning Commons). All three facilities accept cash, credit (except Amex), Flex and Ramapo Dollars
What is a "Meal Period"?
This represents a specific time/segment of our daily service. A student may enter Birch Tree Inn for breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night dining. The student may enter the facility only once during each meal period (see meal periods below), with the exception of the Ultimate plan, which offers unlimited usage. Any additional meals over and above the number stated in the selected Dining Plan will require payment with Flex, Ramapo Dollars or cash.
When are the Meal Periods?
There are four meals served Monday through Friday: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night dining. There are three meals served on Saturday and Sunday: brunch, dinner and late night dining. Meal allotment is reallocated on Saturday for brunch. There are approximately 16 weeks in each semester.
I have a special diet, what do I do?
Dining Services can accommodate most special diets. Vegetarian and Vegan interests are kept in mind as menus are developed. There is a specific process for making special requests for medical, religious, cultural or other reasons. Students with such requests should inquire at the Dining Services Office, located by the entrance to Birch Tree Inn
I am sick, how do I eat?
Students who are ill or disabled and cannot get to one of the dining facilities can also make arrangements for a boxed meal by calling Dining Services at (201) 684-7773 listed above. In such cases, a friend or roommate can pick up the meal for them, using the student’s I.D. along with a note of explanation. Advance notice of such a need is appreciated and will better ensure prompt service.
What is "Late Night" dining?
Late Night Dining allows students to enjoy snacks such as pizza, grill items, lighter fare, ice cream, sandwiches, fruit and assorted beverages at the Birch Tree Inn Monday-Friday 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. & weekends 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. Students may access “late night” as part of their Dining Plan or with Flex, Ramapo Dollars or cash.
What are the rules for dining?
Students must present a valid college I.D. card in order to use their Dining Plan or Ramapo Dollars. Dining Plans are non-transferable and may not be used by anyone other than the owner of the I.D. Students are entitled to unlimited service while in the Student Restaurants, however, food or service ware may not be removed from the dining area.
Can I change my dining plan?
Yes you can! You can choose from any of our Meal Plan options. Block Plans are perfect for Commuter Students, Apartment Student and Faculty/ Staff.
